How we create unforgettable events for the biggest night of the year, New Year's Eve!

If there’s one thing we know how to do at Duchess, it’s how to throw a party! After almost a decade working with the Hyde & Co Group, we’re lucky enough to be given creative rein when it comes to their New Year’s Eve events, from concept to delivery, and with an ever-growing portfolio of venues there’s always a new NYE party to plan. For 2022 we had three big events to create, as well as overseeing the marketing for all of the other bars and restaurants, so needless to say New Year is a BIG deal…
One of the best things about working with the Hyde & Co Group is the sheer variety of their venues. Each one has its own personality, and when planning their New Year’s Eve parties we always have to bear this in mind. As the largest venues, Bambalan, The Milk Thistle and The Raven wanted to host big ticketed parties, complete with performers, decor and DJs, so we were tasked with creating concepts which not only fitted with the venues, but worked with the drinks sponsors they had lined up.

What we did
After meeting with the General Managers of each of the venues, we agreed on a theme and then the rest was up to us! We planned, budgeted, and organised, and then it was down to the fun stuff! We managed everything from decorating the venues with hundreds of helium balloons, right through to booking the AV, DJ and performers. We were also responsible for promoting and managing the ticket sales and being on hand throughout the evening to manage the performers and ensure everything ran smoothly.
Bambalan – It’s Disco B*!&H
As Hyde & Co’s biggest venue, this event had a 400 capacity and we were tasked with selling tickets for a seated dinner alongside tickets for just drinks and dancing – which we managed to completely sell out and it was the biggest NYE party hosted at Bam to date!
We decided on a theme of all things disco, fusing the bygone ages of 70s disco with modern day dance culture. To level things up, we booked in a drag queen, the one and only Alyssa Van Delle, to perform a special cabaret show for the dinner guests alongside dancing disco heads to really amp up the party crowd. There’s no better way to see in the new year than being at Bam during the midnight countdown with all of the glitter cannons firing off!
The Milk Thistle – All that Glitters
As an elegant speakeasy bar, we knew that we needed to keep things classy at The Milk Thistle. The event was sponsored by Moet and Belvedere so we centred the theme around golden glitz and glamour, organising a stunning balloon arch to trail up the stairs and filling the venue with golden balloons to emulate the bubbles in champagne.
To tie in with the theme, we reached out to our performer connections and booked in the wonderful Antonia Purdie to do two stunning burlesque performances, as well as two roaming golden goddesses wearing feather headdresses, a contortionist and a magician, performing across the two floors of the venue. The DJ played into the early hours whilst people danced and drank cocktails and it was a glorious way to celebrate the incoming new year!
The Raven – The Midnight Circus
Nestled in the heart of Old Town, we decided to do things a little differently at The Raven with circus themed entertainment so we also booked a juggler as well as the amazing contortionist, burlesque dancer and magician who were also performing at The Milk Thistle which meant that we carefully had to manage their timings on the night so that they could be split across the two venues. With a special cocktail menu for the evening and a DJ ramping up the tunes, it was a magical way to see in 2023!

Each of the events were completely sold out well in advance on NYE, and with each venue absolutely popping off on the night with incredible balloon installations and decor, and guests being entertained all evening by a plethora of amazing performers, we felt that we really offered the city something a bit different.
We had amazing feedback from all of the guests, as well as from the client, and it won’t be long until we’re planning for NYE 2023.
